Something you might not know about me: I was born and grew up in Nigeria. Many of us in our expat community dreamed of eating apples. We baked faux apple pie, and ate mango sauce instead of apple sauce. Little did I know that when I was grown up I would live next door to an apple orchard. Then all I wanted was a mango fresh off the tree.

As I traveled between countries I saw many contrasts not just in the type of food, but in the availability. In Nigeria at that time there weren’t many processed foods, and we prepared everything from scratch. In the United States a grocery store has aisles and aisles of food choices that can be overwhelming. By the time I was ready to choose a career there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to learn more about food.

My Education and Experience

After completing my Bachelor of Science in Nutrition at Penn State University, I worked with clients at all stages of life. This included pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants and children with the WIC program, and food service positions in both daycare centers for children and geriatric communities.

To train as a Functional Nutritionist, I went back to school for my Master of Science in Human Nutrition at the University of Bridgeport. This program has a focus on Functional Nutrition, bio-individuality and a scientific, evidence-based approach. 

Since then I have completed 1000 hours of supervised practical experience and passed a rigorous exam to qualify as a Certified Nutrition Specialist® (CNS®).

I am required to complete 75 hours of continuing education every five years to maintain the CNS® credential and stay abreast of the field of nutrition. I do this with joy since love of learning is my top character strength.
